Frequently Asked Questions
A. We had a bad experience with shipping 100 sets of cookies for a School Bazaar a few years back, very few cookies made it out of the box alive. We don't want to relive the horror, and we don't think you do either. Cookies are fragile, so are my feelings when customers are unhappy - so we will stick to local pick-up for now. Also, we operate under Virginia's Cottage Food Laws, which means in order to follow the rules there has to be a face-to-face exchange of goods (and no crossing State Lines). I know, following the rules is so boring. There are a few companies that will ship, and we are happy to recommend an alternative for you!
Q. I like all of the cookies on your site, but i want something SPECIAL that NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN BEFORE! Can you do it???
A. We LOVE a challenge! Tell us your cookie hopes and dreams, and we will try to make them a reality.
Q. Speaking of special, I like a cookie I've seen but want to change the colors/size, can I?
A. Of course! Cookies are like people, they are all unique. We like to mix things up, and nothing makes us happier than to do something we've not done before.
Q. Can you make me a cookie from a drawing I have?
A. SURE! But we may not have a cutter for that, so there could be a small fee added if we need to hand-cut each cookie. Many times we are able to find a cutter that matches the size or shape of your desired custom cookie and make it work, but if we can't and need to cut each cookie by hand it just needs a little extra time and effort....we will let you know if this is the case before we start.
Q. Will my cookies come packaged separately for me, or in one big pile?
A. You choose! We can individually wrap your cookies if you plan on handing out as a goody bag or take-away at an event, or; if you are serving them directly to your guests we will arrange them on a platter - just be sure to let us know when you order. Also, the price varies, so be sure to check our ordering information tab for complete pricing list.
Q. I have a child with allergies, can you tell me what goes in your cookies?
A. Absolutely, send us a note and we will happily send you a full ingredient list to use and have on hand for your event. In general, we use only high quality ingredients including organic and all natural where available/practical: Eggs, Unbleached Flour, Butter, Shortening, Milk, Vanilla Extract, Baking Powder & Salt. We can also definitely confirm the presence of sugar in our SUGAR cookies. *Note: We use Wilton Brand IMITATION Almond Extract in our icing. The manufacturer notes that Imitation Almond Extract is a safe choice for those with Tree Nut Allergies, however, please be sure to do your own due diligence if the person consuming has a known Tree Nut Allergy. In the event of a nut allergy concern, we are happy to switch to an alternative extract. **Baked goods are made in a kitchen that processes peanuts, tree nuts, wheat and other food allergens**
Q. Do you make other cookies? What if I want chocolate chip?
A. We stick to what we know....and thats sugar cookies. We hear Nestle does a bang up job with Chocolate Chip so we wouldn't want to even try to compete.
Q. I want to have special tags made to go with my cookies, they will be a thank you/holiday/congratulations message...can you help?
A. We can try! If we can't do it for you, we can coordinate to find someone who can - and even have them printed/shipped directly and attached to your goodies for you...all you have to do is approve the creative and pick them up! Price will vary for this service, but let us know what you have in mind and we can pretty much work with any budget.
Q. I want to order cake toppers, what do I do about a cake?
A. Duncan Hines all the way. We kid (sort of). If you can't find a plain cake at your local Giant/Safeway/Wegmans/Harris Teeter - and you really don't want to do it yourself, we can probably help. Full Disclosure, it will be a box cake from Duncan Hines. It will also be Icing from a can. Our amazing cookie talent just doesn't translate to cakes..they are a whole other beast that we just haven't tamed. So your cake will be pretty, edible and homemade - but it will be from a pre-made mix. Also, this Duncan guy has to have mastered the whole cake thing at this point....he's been doing it forever, we trust him. There is a flat fee for this service, see the Ordering Tab for full info.
Q. I have a LARGE order, Im talking BIG - can I call you the day before I need it?
A. Please, please, please don't. We want your event to be spectacular and will do pretty much anything to accommodate you (within reason), but cookies are like toddlers...you can't rush them. Our cookies are made from scratch and are typically a 3-day process. We may be able help in an emergency cookie situation, but in general we require 5 business days notice. We hope that if you have a large order, that you can give us little extra time to prepare.
Q. How long will your cookies last/be safe to eat/still look pretty? I want to pick them up on Thursday for a party on Saturday.
A. A good estimate is 4-5 days shelf life. By day 5, the icing will start to lose its sheen and around 7 days the cookies will start to dry out/become stale. We recommend picking them up no sooner that 2 days before your event. We plan our cookie calendar very carefully to make sure they are as fresh as possible for you.
Q. Is there anything you wont put on a cookie?
A. If you wouldn't say it or show it to your grandmother, then we probably won't put it on a cookie. If your grandmother is a foul-mouthed hooligan, we'd like to meet her! But we still probably won't put something inappropriate on a cookie.
If you have any other cookie related questions, don't hesitate to shoot us a note and we will respond as quickly as possible!
